At the beginning of the summer, whilst playing in the park, I let Ruben use my shoes to throw around as we didn't have a ball. One got lost in some dense undergrowth, so I had to walk home barefoot. I tried "one shoe off and one shoe on" but that was even sillier. They were croc shoes. I don't particularly like crocs, though I admit they are very comfortable and practical. My father gave them to me as a birthday present in a classic scenario:
Father: Alix, look at this website and choose what colour crocs you want for you birthday.
Me: Well I'm not a great fan of crocs, though I do need some shoes. What about some sandals?
F: I didn't ask you what you wanted. I choose what I give you for your birthday.
M: But you could get me something that I like, you might like them too.
F: Look, I'm getting you crocs or nothing. I think they are brilliant. Either choose a colour or don't. Get back to me by tonight.
Anyway, the point is as they're synthetic shoes they won't have rotten in the bushes, so I'm hoping that as the summer plants die back my croc will be found and returned. And just in case this analogy wasn't clear; no, I'm not looking for some Cinderella moment with a garderner, but yes, hope of finding my shoe is a metaphor for finding my groove and getting back into action.
This isn't a perfect metaphor because my evident lack of affection for crocs doesn't represent my affection for creating things and sharing them on this blog. But this imperfect metaphor is in itself a representation of my imperfections. Enough already.
Happy Autumn.

Never mind the shoe, I'm still laughing about your Dad's approach to presents.
Dear Alix,
You allways write beautifully...
So you play socker with your shoes. Yes, why not? You are the best Mom; Ruben wants to play soccer, and his mom has no ball so she instantly invent a ball for her boy. Always have a creative solution up here sleve!
Well Alix, I really hope you don´t find your croc again. They are ugly. I bet they where pink too?? I wish you sandals instead!!!
BUT I wish for you to find what YOU are missing so you can be the creative, happy, productive, sewing person that you are! And that YOU WILL HAVE A HAPPY AUTUMN!
Love,
Olga
i'd have paid good money to see the one-croc-on trip home. And maybe you could tell your Dad that you can't deny the karmic laws of nature, he should get you a pair of lovely comfy sandals..
here's hoping the groove returns.

Shula, oooo I could deicate a whole blog to my father's antics...
Olga - you are better than therapy. Always kind and positive.
Hello Nanette, lovely to hear from you. Karmic laws don't apply to my father. I should tell you this on your own blog but I love your Paris photos.
Ha! Quite logical what happened to your shoe after according to how the decision has been made that you had to get them! Ha!
