Objectivity is...

... a book and exhibition of one man's life long passion for collecting beautiful, curious and functional objects.

Nothing in the exhibition is labelled, so you can spend ages guessing at what an object is; you look hard at the shape, at the materials, does it move? what activity would it help? and wonder-up many banal or incredible devises which are as entertaining as discovering the real function on the handout.

The objects are united through the elegant eye of the beholder and collector, David Usbourne. Everything is displayed simply and with space, for you to see the beauty in them. They were collected from cluttered spaces; flea markets, junk shops, skips, hardwear stores, craft workshops, forgotten cupboards and many travels. The designs are domestic, industrial and ethnic.

Seemingly disconnected, but also just right, are his collection of handstiched patchwork quilts. He especially likes those made from old silk ties. They don't appear in the book. It's worth visitng just to see them. My photos of the quilts are on flickr. I love them.

gosh, i must go - looks wonderful. and an exhibition of unlabeled work / object is too appealing to miss, there's far too much labeling, too much explanation everywhere you go... x
