Ruben's School Fayre was wonderful. It's my local state primary school. Seeing how all the parents and local community came together made me feel loads better about him being at this school. Anywhere that has a strawberry jam competition, with separate categories for "The Jammiest Jam" and the "Most Deliciously Fruitiest Jam" (who and how do you distinguish between them?) and where dads and daughters play saxophone duets and prepubescent bands play tunes like "It Was Just a Drunken Mistake". There was a yo-yo competition, make-your-own-tutu craft stall, a fortune teller, barbaque, pea-fair....A Proper British Summer, complete with lack of sunshine.
