My violin is finally back home, mended. And so, on a whim, I've signed up for a South Indian violin and vocals course. As you do in between doing the laundry and making dinner. Part of SOAS World Music Summer School. I know nothing about Ragas and Talas. By next week I should be playing some. In the mean time it is intriguing and exhausting. Like doing brain back-flips.

Looking GREAT! Now you are all set!!!
...and how WAS it - the course???
There's a long tradition of violin in Indian music, or since the Europeans first brought over the instrument. Here is a link of the violinist, Nandini Muthuswamy, who took the course playing with her sister.

you can also search "carnatic violin" to come up with more.
Olga, the course was great, but lots of theory and not enough practical playing. But it opened my ears, and my heart :-)
