I only visited shops on two occasions during a whole month of being in South Africa. That's how secluded I was. But I was determined to seek out Shweshwe fabric from the South African company Da Gama Textiles as recommended by Brikebrok. I mostly bought the 3 CAT and 3 LEOPARD range, all designed in England! That must have been a long time ago. The fabric has a very distinctive smell, like slightly baked cereal. The name of the fabric, Shweshwe, really fits the smell. And such a pretty name. Colours do bleed so I'm not going to mix the fabrics as I'd originally intended. Lets see...

and this word has a lovely meaning : the sound the fabric makes when you move it, did you notice it ?

mix vinegar and salt in the water and wash them first. that's what i do with mines
