I made a cape for Ruben's 3rd birthday, along with a crown. To be honest he wasn't interested initially. Perhaps he could feel that they were weighted gifts. They carried the weight of my caring and my desires. He ignored them for a month or so. It was the same with his bike. The whole family had clubbed together to buy it (like-a-bikes are mighty fine and mighty expensive) and he was presented quite ceremoniously. He shied away and said "It's too special for me". Owch. That left me with much agonising and analysing.
The point is the cape, the bike and the rope, have become inseparable friends to Ruben.

A cape is so versatile, it can morph with your imagination: A king, a Queen, a knight, a fairy, a rug, a blanket, a tent, a Roman soldier, a witch, a Super-Hero, Robin Hood, Snow White, a sleigh, a bag, a pilgrim, a nurse....

Here's cape as fields of the farm. (Note the rope river on the iceberg).
I've made a few from the Shweshwe fabric, and one from a lovely fan print my mother brought back from Ethiopia. They are for my much maligned SHOP.
I'd really like one for myself, they are so protective and comforting. I need to find the right print and style for me, something that doesn't say "I'm the resident witch on this street".

I love them, but then I love just about everything to do with your blog.

We've got a like-a-bike sitting largely ignored in our garage. If I were a bit smaller, I'd ride it myself!
Adorável!!!
Thanks Nanette, Ali and Ana.
Ali, you've got to give that bike to a good home. Either that or shrink. They're too good to be wasted :-)
